Ruma Weka

Sue Hutchison —

What we have been doing in Weka recently...

Sustainability - This term Weka has been doing some sustainability artwork to show how we could help reduce pollution but also conserve natural resources like water and energy.

Mandalorian - We have been doing some Mandalorian artwork to express what our lives are like at school including our school goals and our friends at school who play a role in our school life.

Names - We have our names and in each letter of our names some of us have put our favourite colours, the pets we have had in our lives and the things that we enjoy doing in our free time.

Papatuanuku - Our class has been doing Papatuanuku artwork which is in Māori tradition. The earth mother Papatuanuku, one of the two primal gods, represents land, illustrating its importance to Māori. Rather than perceiving land as being ‘owned’, Māori formed a relationship with it.

We have also been studying the topic of introduced pests to New Zealand and the devastating impact they have had on our environment. We have made some brochures to tell others about the problems we have and some ideas about control and to look at sustainable practices.
