Ruma Huia's News

Sarah Weddle —

What a week we have had in Ruma Huia! This term the children have all been busy rehearsing for Polyfest and this week our hard work and effort finally paid off as we performed our songs at the Edgar Centre.

The children sang Tutira Mai, a song about all coming together to support each other; this is certainly what we did! The children all tried their best, even learning to sign the song in New Zealand Sign Language. They also performed a Sasa and we were very grateful to have some of our older children support us with the drums and callouts. All the teachers are very proud of the Junior children, and we hope you are too. Thanks to those of you that turned up to cheer us on, we loved the support.

In Ruma Huia we love Phonics! Phonics are the sounds we use to help us read and write. Each day the children learn a new sound and practice writing and reading words that use that sound. Through this, they are really becoming excellent readers and writers. Each week we write about what we did on the weekend. Some of the children are beginning to build and write their sentences independently. Look at this great work
