Steering Your Own Adventure!
Dr. Seuss once said: "You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose!"
And you know what? He’s absolutely right! (He was a doctor, after all… well, kind of.)
Have you ever thought about how incredible that is? You’ve got a brain, which means you can think up wild, wonderful, and wacky ideas. You’ve got feet, which means you can go on adventures—whether that’s running across the field at lunchtime, tiptoeing past a sleeping cat, or walking proudly into assembly.
And best of all, YOU get to decide where you go, what you learn, and how you grow. Brains Are Amazing (Even When They Forget Stuff!) Your brain is like a superhero’s gadget—able to solve problems, tell funny jokes, and remember the lyrics to every annoying song ever. (But somehow, it forgets where you put your lunchbox… ).
The great thing about having a brain is that it helps you make choices.
Do I eat my sandwich first or my biscuit?
Do I do my homework now or later?
Do I try my best today or nap at my desk? (Okay, that last one’s not a choice.)
Every day, you get to decide what person you want to be. Will you be kind? Will you be brave? Will you give something new a go? Your brain helps you steer your way through all these decisions. Feet Take You Places (Even When They Step in Mud!)
Your feet are like your very own travel machines! They take you from home to school, from class to the playground, and—sometimes—right into a puddle when you aren’t looking. But feet aren’t just for walking and running—they help you move forward.
Every time you try something new, like learning a tricky word in reading, scoring a goal in soccer, or making a new friend, your feet are helping you take steps towards something great. Steering Your Own Path.
At Carisbrook School, we believe in "Whaia te iti kahuraki – Strive for excellence!" That means using our brains to think big and our feet to keep moving forward, even when things get tough.
So, next time you’re faced with a challenge, remember:
⭐ You have brains in your head—use them to think, learn, and imagine!
⭐ You have feet in your shoes—keep moving forward, even if you trip along the way!
⭐ You can steer yourself—choose kindness, courage, and curiosity, and you’ll go far!
Now, go out there, be amazing, and whatever you do… watch where you’re stepping!
See you all again on Tuesday, REMEMBER MONDAY IS A DAY OFF FOR OTAKAU ANNIVERSARY DAY.
Your Principal,
Mr James
