Term 4 STEAM
Cultural Cooking - How food has influenced human evolution and how humans in turn have redefined food overtime.
This term we have many conversations about traditions and traditional foods. What foods we like to eat and why they are special or important to us. We have learnt how to cook Hummus, Quiche and Butter Chicken.
We have discussed how technology and social media can influence what foods we eat and how they are portrayed through media as 'Healthy' and they may not be healthy at all.
Next week we are creating our own Cultural food maps, diving deep into the foods we eat at home and with our families, identifying where some of our foods are sourced from and the different methods we use to cook our foods.
Have a look at our photos of us making Butter Chicken this week, we found that 1 serving of butter chicken can cost upwards of $17 per serving as a takeaway, each group made their Butter chicken for 5-6 people for around $15. They found it really easy to make and there were no left overs!
I have really enjoyed learning about all your different food traditions, cultures, likes and dislikes. I am impressed that everyone is trying something new each week and continues to challenge themselves to develop their cooking skills and collaborating with others to achieve a common goal.
