Principal's Message: 25 Sept 2020
A very special lady, Ann Swan, says goodbye today after 46 years devoting herself to the care and well-being of children and their families. 28 years on the Caversham site and nine years as Associate Principal at Carisbrook. Ann, you are irreplaceable and shall be remembered forever.

What a wonderful term we have had despite Covid Alert Level 2 forcing us to cancel many sporting and cultural events. However, in the past week we have had a rugby league team, Year 5&6 and Year 7&8 netball team and a 10-a-side rugby team play in local tournaments. The rugby team lost to Taieri College in the final having previously beaten them and the Tahuna and Balmacewen sides.
Last night, the Senior Team showcased the work of the Year 7 & 8 students. During Digital Technology the students learnt how to make their own app. Friends and family using a QR code reader were able to download their apps. We all learnt so much from the students.
Next term we welcome a new Social Worker in Schools, Lynda Davidson. Lynda works for Anglican Family Care. Lynda has worked in schools before and is really excited to be joining us at Carisbrook.
We also welcome Claire Rye to our staff. Claire is a Community Art Therapist and currently works for Stopping Violence Dunedin. Claire is well known to us and has led a 'Friendship' group for the past two years.
This term the enviro-group under Jo Stevens have made a huge impact. Alister Wilden is supporting their projects. Alister hired a digger last weekend and has cleared the dome garden area in readiness for a new hen house and raised gardens. Please take the time to check out the ongoing progress.
Alister proudly displays a screwdriver holder made for him by a student during wood work sessions.
The Human Resources sub committee for the Board of Trustees have made four appointments for next year: Bethan Dempster and Autumn Scarf-Matthews now have permanent jobs in the Junior Team. Jo Stevens is continuing in Rata until the end of Term 1. Kyla McCullum is moving into an area she is passionate about, working with students with diverse needs and will be our new SENCO next year. Next term Kyla will begin an induction programme to support her in this role.
We have missed coming together for assemblies but these will be held every second week next term with our final assembly and Year 8 Graduation being on Monday 14 December.
Next term, as well as the fortnightly newsletter, we intend to keep the upcoming events section of the website alive by adding updates.
I wish all students and staff a great holiday. Rest up and be ready for an action packed term with our production as a highlight.
Special thanks to you all for your support and involvement in our school.
