MST in Term Three

Wendy Fairbairn —

During term three we have been undertaking statistical investigations...

The Year Five and Six MST groups have been looking at our school lunches, and surveying classes to gage the most and least popular options. As with any statistical survey, we needed to have a purpose, and ours is to see if we can influence a change to some of the meal options. This would result in more of the foods that the children enjoy, meaning less food wastage and more full tummies.

The children created a Google Form to survey some of the classes, and are now working on the best way to present their findings to Mrs Munro and the Board of Trustees.

There is also a Blooket game that we created using all the data from our surveys. If you would like to give it a go follow this link:

Tip: You can click on the picture of the spreadsheet on each question to enlarge it within the game making it easier to see.

The Year Eight MST group has been using their shared love of basketball to guide their learning around solving word problems and analysing statistical data. They have been working on generic basketball word problems based on famous players, but now they have created their own! The group set up a free throw competition and gathered the data to create their own set of word problem worksheets for the Year Five and Six MST children to solve.
