Principal's Message:
Katrina Munro 29th May 2020. We have meet many new challenges this year and tough as it seemed we had many positive milestones and outcomes. Another new beginning is upon us: Free School Lunches for every student! This is starting Wednesday 3rd June.
With our drinking fountains out of action many students have been bringing their own drinking bottles to school. Today Annelies, from the Public Health South, donated drink bottles which we will distribute to students who need one.
Thank you to Kiwi Harvest who have kindly redistributed food from various cafes and supermarkets for us to distribute amongst our students and families.
They also donated hundreds of Easter Eggs which we used to make up 'Welcome back to School' bags for all all students at school that day.
Azure Church, made up sixty snap packs which have been greatly received by our children. A real act of kindness.
Carisbrook school is lucky to have a wonderful crew of staff who support our students in varying ways. Today Julie and Connor baked ginger bread men which they then shared with others and I can vouch for the fact that they were delicious. Thanks Connor.
As part of Covid -19 Alert Level 2 we have been running two timetables with Years 1-4 together and Years 5-8 together. It has been so successful staff surveyed the students about continuing with the split times. Students and Staff have overwhelmingly voted to continue with the new split timetable. Some notable reasons from the students is there is more room and everyone gets a chance to play on equipment or areas which they haven't usually been able to.The staff are enjoying interacting with the students and the behaviour is so positive.
Reporting and 3 Way Interviews: School as we know it this term has been vastly different. Being back at school the Teachers have been focusing on routines and supporting the students positive well-being. Now the teachers are gathering data and helping the students to see where they are at and what their next learning steps should be. Instead of the usual Mid-Year report followed by Parent Interviews we intend to run 3 Way Interviews in Week 12 of this term. Our goal will be to meet with every student and their whanau, to work together to set goals and decide how they can meet these goals for the remainder of the year. We want you involved in working alongside us to ensure your child reaches their potential. Teachers will be sending home Goal Setting forms and setting a time for you to meet with your child and their teacher.
It has been great seeing all the students and some of you through the fences. Thank you for your understanding as you have had to either wave goodbye from the fence or report to the office for contact tracing.
