Learning to Type is More Important Than Improving Handwriting

Micah Scott —

Did you know 15 billion trees get cut down every year for paper? I think it is more important to learn how to type rather than learn to write because you will be prepared to type something for school or applying for a job and save the planet.

Firstly, I think that learning to type is more important than learning handwriting because in the future everything will be on computers and other devices. You also need the skill to type so when you go to school and university you are prepared for if you have to type an essay or if you're applying for a job.

Secondly, us humans cut down over 15.3 billion trees a year for paper that goes into our books. If we all learn to type then we won’t need to cut down as many trees and we can use trees to make more important resources such as wood and medicines, or to grow fruit. We need trees to survive because trees breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen. They also prevent floods, so if everybody typed we wouldn’t need to cut down trees for paper anymore.

Thirdly, not everyone is good at typing but not everyone is good at handwriting either. I know lots of people, like my brother, that are not the neatest at handwriting but he is a really fast typer on a computer. In my opinion, it is easier and faster to type on a computer rather than writing in a book and you can personalise your text to make it look unique.

We’d all be better off typing because it’s faster, it’s easier and it would help save more trees and it would help you to be prepared for if you need to type something for school, university or if you're applying for a job.
