Ashleigh McClenaghan —

We are slowly creeping towards the end of term. We have been testing our students and focusing on completing all our work to a high standard. We have also enjoyed incorporating new technology into our learning.

While each class has been testing and working on our new goals to share at our student led conferences next week Miss McC has had fun going into each Year 3&4 classes teaching them new art work that combines our learning of 2D shapes that we have been focusing on in maths. Here are Manaaki and Aiona from Ruma Weka proudly sharing their creations.

We had our first experience with Makey Makey's last week. A couple of weeks ago the staff were introduced and got to play with our new digital technology items we have recently purchased for the school, it was only fair the students get to experience it too. We had Miss Pugh and the senior students come into classes and show us a slideshow they had created and then let us use the Makey Makey's. We learnt what a circuit is, how it works and how to create our own. We used multiple conductive substances such as: play dough, lead pencils and even fruit to create our control devices to play our games.

We have all been loving reading the new J.K. Rowling book online called 'Ickabog.' It is free online to read. The link to the chapters are below. We have enjoyed learning and discussing the new descriptive language. Some classes have also been focusing on visualising as a reading comprehension strategy so have created their own art to go along side with the descriptions.

Ruma Weka have enjoyed creating igloo's out of ice cubes. They had to work together as a team to create an igloo that had to cover a plastic animal as part of their study of 3D shapes.

Zacklin from Ruma Kakapo wrote a great piece on a bulldozer and drew some fantastic illustrations to complete his work. He enjoyed sharing this with not only with his teacher Mrs Horton but also Miss McC and Mrs B.
