Amazing Aerobics Activities
Last weekend our aerobics teams and individuals competed in the Otago Regional Championships at Kavanagh College.
It was an early start with our students and teachers there from 7.30am and not getting home until 7pm that night for the heats.
Our Carisbrook students showed up with great enthusiasm and a willingness to absolutely give it their all and try their best on a chilly Dunedin morning.
On stage, our students went hard, performed their routines with great energy and showed what great competitors they truly are. Offstage it was an incredible show of sportsmanship and grace with our students cheering and supporting all competitors and making sure everyone was treated correctly and with respect. Our Carisbrook students even received a special prize on Saturday for their support towards others over every other school or team competing which is an incredible achievement as this is our first year competing.
On Sunday we were back at 8.30am and headed home after a long but exciting weekend at 5pm for the finals. We had our teams competing again and John with our only individual performance. Again our students represented our school to an incredibly high standard, showing class, respect and sportsmanship to its highest regard.
Special mention has to go to our coach Destiny Carvell who has coached our students on Sunday afternoons, Monday lunchtimes and even after school on Mondays as well. She actually got a special award during prizegiving for her incredible job with our students during our first year of competition.
Incredibly two of our teams have qualified for the National Competition that is being held in Wellington later this term if lockdown levels go down.
We would like to thank all of our whanau that came to support, the amount of support from the teachers who came, Sarina de Boer and Olivia Leonard who helped with hair and makeup. If we didn't have your help and support we wouldn’t have been able to do it.
We were beyond impressed and proud of how all our students represented Carisbrook and are excited for Nationals and the future of aerobics at Carisbrook School. We were lucky to witness the older competitors and we sat awestruck at the talent and incredible level of technique and fitness that they showed. The progression from 1st-year talent to World competitors in Dunedin was fantastic to watch and made us all very motivated for future aerobic aspirations.
A massive congratulations to everyone who competed in the weekend, you did yourselves, your family/ whanau and our Carisbrook family very proud!
