Do you know your vowels? A E I O U (and sometimes Y)
Seen in ESOL (English for speakers of other languages)...
Today in ESOL Bissan and Hiba learnt that all English words need at least one vowel. They had their vowel flashcards in a line, and then they were asked to pick any consonant flashcard to create a word.
Sometimes it was hard to pick the correct letters, but they kept trying! Once they had a word, they wrote it in their ESOL workbooks and circled the vowels to show they knew which ones they had used.
Hiba and Bissan also teamed up and created the word Family. Can you name which vowels it uses? Hmmm, what about the letter Y in Family? The letter Y can be both a vowel and a consonant depending on where it is located in the word. In this case, the letter Y is NOT at the start of the word, or the beginning of a syllable, so it is functioning as a vowel.
Great work Hiba and Bissan.
