Carncot Independent School

Week 4 ... and looking ahead to Week 5

From the Principal's Desk ...

This week we have welcomed Harry Entwisle to the Carncot community. Harry's arrival brings the number of boys enrolled to 34, and a new total pupil roll now of 110! This is a great result, as we have now moved beyond our maximum 2017 roll. We have been processing a steady stream of enrolment enquiries of late, and our opening roll for 2019 is looking very positive.

Reviews of independent schools occur every three to four years, and it was our opportunity to share all that we do with two reviewers last week.  At the oral feedback meeting for the Board, the reviewers were very complimentary about all that they observed. They were very impressed with the friendly, engaged and confident children that they met. The strength and warmth of the kapa haka and waiata welcome was noted. They commented on the differentiated learning that was observed, focussed feedback and the purposeful use of assessment data to inform teaching and learning. They were impressed with the authentic pupil leadership that they observed, and our attention to personal academic excellence. We will have a confirmed report to share with the community in 6-8 weeks time.

It has been a busy week! I trust that those of you who attended the Art Exhibition were suitably impressed with the children's work, which Vicki Sinclair has so expertly displayed - thank you for this wonderful showcase of the children's art Vicki! And then it was on to the 2018 Soirée, and what a wonderful way that was to showcase such a range and depth of musical talent.

And now, preparing and practising for Athletics Day steps up a notch this coming week. Mr Conger has successfully won a grant from Sports Manawatū, to provide some specialist athletics coaching for the children during their PE sessions. Please do let us know if you are able to assist teachers with the various events on November 22nd.
