Science Extension at Preschool

Ange Johns —

On Wednesday 3 July 2019, eight lucky science extension students had the opportunity to expand the minds of some preschool children with some sticky science.

Zaleen Rm 14, Ashton Rm 5, Josh R Rm 15, Spencer Rm 8, Loghan Rm 8, Nicola Rm 13, Bree Rm 15 and Katelyn Rm 15 travelled to Kindercare Sawyers - Arms to spend the morning teaching 2 - 4 year olds about science. Good fun was had by both the preschoolers and the intermediate science experts. The Casebrook students learned how to interact with the preschoolers, while also teaching them some of the basic science experiments that they had perfected.

The top activities from the preschoolers perspective were:

#1 The bubbles - blowing bubbles in bubbles, making bubble explosions, catching bubbles in their hands and blowing bubbles on the back of their hands.

#2 Fizzy cloud dough - was mesmerising, some of the littles ones just stood and stared. It was messy and it took a while for some to try it out, but once they got into it they went crazy for it.

#3 Lava Lamps - everyone was very excited to put in the fizzy tablets and then to shake the mixtures to their hearts content.

Overall, all the children big and small enjoyed, learned and laughed together. It was a great experience and would love to do it again.
