Colgate Community Garden Challenge

Jacinta Clark —

Hey Casebrook community! Our school is competing in the Colgate Community Garden Challenge!

Please bring the following items to a box in Room 4: used toothpaste tubes and packaging, non electric toothbrushes and packaging, floss containers and packaging, Interdental brushes and packaging.

ANY BRAND OF ORAL CARE WASTE WILL BE ACCEPTED (IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE COLGATE!).

There are prizes up for grabs, including two recycled community gardens (valued at over $4,000 each!). We just need to send in 2kg of oral care waste to be in the draw. The school with the most Garden Points will win one garden and the other winner will be a school that is drawn at random. We also go in the draw to win upcycled pencil cases!

This is how we earn points:

1 unit of oral care waste = 10 Garden Points

1 online vote = 1 Garden Point

To vote for us online, please go to terracycle.co.nz/colgategardenvoting. Enter your name, email address and Casebrook Intermediate.

Why recycle oral care waste?

Toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes and caps, floss containers and oral care outer packaging are not accepted by councils because they’re more difficult and expensive to recycle. That’s why Colgate teamed up with TerraCycle to establish a year-round recycling solution for the millions of oral care products purchased in New Zealand every year.

TerraCycle is a recycling company that recycles the ‘non-recyclable’, including toothbrushes, coffee capsules and yoghurt pouches. With Colgate, they operate the Oral Care Recycling Programme that allows Kiwis to recycle all brands of oral care waste from anywhere in the country while generating donations for schools and non-profits.
