Kaiārahi Peer Support

Emily Ahomiro, Ava Martin-Sustersic and Kingston Donnelly —

This has started this term at Te Kura Mareko!

Peer support is about supporting Year 7 students by taking them out of class and supporting them with their school work. The child that you are supporting can come to you at any time of the day.

Each week the peer support leaders and students do fun activities. These could include baking, cooking, sports and boardgames. The Year 8 peer support leader works in the classroom with the Year 7 helping them with their work.

Students benefit from this programme in terms of friendships and social skills. The peer support leaders want the Year 7 students to enjoy their time at Casebrook.

Mr Foster is in charge of the peer support programme at Casebrook. He picks a handful of Year 8 students to help with this and chooses the activities the Year 7's do with their peer support buddies.
