We encourage all students to be involved in either sporting, cultural, music or the arts as an extension of their learning. This is important, particularly at this age as our young people are developing the skills and traits they will have as adults. By having as many experiences as possible they develop confidence. This will assist them in realising their potential as they move into adulthood. If you feel your child needs additional encouragement, please contact Mr Will Stribling. He will be happy to work with you.

If any of your contact details have changed during the holidays, or will change through the term, please notify the school office.

When your child is absent from school a note is required to explain their absence. Texting to the teacher is not suitable. If the absence is five days or more a medical certificate is required.

Classes are now using the newly refurbished Casebrook library. We asked Ms Hengst some questions about the new library space.

On May 28th 2018 two Casebrook students, Brie Benns and Hailee Max went to an ANZ Premiership netball match. They won the opportunity to meet the team captains and lead the teams out onto centre court at the start of the match, through the ANZ Future Captains competition on Facebook.

Mya Phillips, 11, from Casebrook Intermediate is an athlete who represented Canterbury at a competition called 995 in Nelson and came 1st against Tasman for shotput and discus.

At the beginning of Term Two the new collaborative learning space was completed. It is built to substitute the old classrooms; Rooms 5, 6, 7, 8 and the library.

On Wednesday the 23rd of May, eight students from Casebrook Intermediate arrived at Cobham Intermediate for the first EPro8 competition for 2018.

The EPro 8 Challenge is a competition, an engineering and problem solving race. Teams of four are based at a workstation containing an impressive assortment of easy to use parts and equipment. Teams choose challenges they wish to undertake. The harder the challenge the more points it is worth. There is not enough time to finish all the challenges – so strategy is required to know which ones to go for.

Emily Yeo of Room 4, Casebrook Intermediate won a Countdown colouring competition, which resulted in a free fruit box for her whole class!

Last month the Shirley rugby under thirteen team went to meet the Crusaders at Top Town where they were placed first in the competition. As a prize they were invited to watch the Crusaders train at AMI stadium.

‘Māori Made easy’ is a class for beginners interested in learning te reo Māori in a fun and simple way.

This terms canteen specials are great on these cold winter days including Baked Potato on Mondays and Beef Lasagne on Fridays.

We would love you to come along to our next PTA meeting, no pressure to join. We will be organising the Dance party and Quiz night coming up in June.

Tomorrow is the last day we will be handing out chocolates please come and see us if you would like some to sell over the long weekend.

Quiz Night - Saturday June 30th. Book the babysitter, round up your friends and come along to quiz night. Everyone welcome, test your general knowledge while raising much needed funds towards the school van. Spot prizes, raffles, fancy dress optional (prize for best dressed). This is a great night not to be missed.

Mrs Sharon Keen is the current president of the New Zealand's Association of Intermediate and Middle Schools (NZAIMS). NZAIMS is a programme that is ‘the voice’ of middle schooling at national decision-maker level.

Talented athlete Armani Lemalu went to the Canterbury Champs in early February and came first in shotput and discus for the New Brighton athletics club.
