Message from the Principal

Admin Cashmere —

We farewell 35 Year 6 students this year. What admirable role models they have become with their contributions to school life and personal drive to aim high.  We will miss all of these people but we enjoy hearing about how our leavers continue to grow and excel - so often our Year 6 graduates make visits to see us and we absolutely love seeing them!

On Friday last week we held a special assembly for our students (Year 0-5) and staff leavers.  As we listened to the staff speeches and the pride sung and chanted from our children, there were many of us reaching for a tissue to dab our eyes. The words spoken about our staff leaving Cashmere expressed evidence of professional growth. Pride was the stand out value! To our staff leaving Cashmere Avenue: Phil, Sue, Sarah-Grace, Tiaoyan, Jenny W, Clair, Sara M and Alwyn, kia manawanui - be steadfast. You are each off to explore unique adventures, and you are ready. Go well.

After five and a half amazing years, I too am joining this group of leavers.  It is difficult to sum up my feelings.  There have been many, many highs and there have been challenges.  Mistakes I've made too.  For every time I felt a bit stuck in the oozy 'problem mud', I remembered a few quotes: 'Life begins at the end of your comfort zone,' and my favourite, 'Today me will live in the moment, unless it's unpleasant, in which case me will eat a cookie,' Cookie Monster.  Alas, cookies were not needed, for I have always had the professionalism of our staff to problem solve with, the high regard for our staff from our community, an incredibly supportive Board of Trustees and the stars of our school, our tamariki - vibrant, eager learners - the best people in the world to make me laugh and feel joy.  He taonga te tangata.  The people are treasure.

I wish for Adelle Jensen, our new Principal, to experience all that I have loved during my time here, and more.

Wishing you all a fun and safe holiday break.
