Farewells:

As we approach the end of the school year it is time to acknowledge, celebrate and share our best wishes with staff that are leaving us.  Each member of staff leaving us will be much missed - a big thank you to all of them from the school board.

As usual the school will be formally farewelling these staff at the leavers' assembly on Friday 9 December.  If you are able, please come along to this assembly to show your appreciation for our leaving staff.

There are two members of staff that the board would particularly like to acknowledge and thank given their length of service to our school.

Mrs Moody retires after 16 years at Cashmere Avenue School - she has been an amazing teacher to our tamariki across the many classes she has supported.  Children have thrived through her teaching of the Arts and her interest in creativity.  Sue has been a valued member of the staff - someone to rely upon throughout the years.  Thank you Mrs Moody!

Mr Rodley is leaving after 23 years to move to Muritai School in Eastbourne.  Mr Rodley is well known and loved by our tamariki, staff and wider community.  He has played a huge role across our school during his time on staff: as a teacher, Associate Principal and Acting Principal and for many he will be remembered for leading the most anticipated activity of the year - school camp!  A huge thank you from the Board, we wish you well Mr Rodley.

We are also of course farewelling Miss Christie.  We will do this formally at our final assembly of the year on Friday 16 December.  If you are able, please also come along to this assembly.  In her five years as Principal, Kate has done so much to take our school and the wider group of schools that are part of our Kāhui Ako forward.  While Kate (Imogen and Major!) will be missed, she leaves with the board's best wishes and thanks as she starts the next adventure in her life in Christchurch.

Looking to 2023:

We are delighted that our incoming Principal, Adelle Jensen, has accepted our invitation to the final assembly of the year on 16 December.  This provides an opportunity to introduce Ms Jensen to students and our school community ahead of a Pōwhiri early in term one next year to formally mark her becoming our Principal.

With a number of staff leaving, term four has, as usual, been a busy period of recruiting new staff.  The board looks forward to welcoming these staff in 2023 in what promises to be an exciting next chapter for the school.

Structured Literacy Programme:

Structured literacy focuses on the link between spoken and written language. The board received an update on the great work the school team have been supporting the introduction of structured literacy for our tamariki, including a think tank created in the Middle and Junior Syndicates as part of a team led enquiry. A big thank you to all involved!

Thank you:

He waka eke noa - we are all in this together, so a very big thank you from the school board to all our staff, students and community for what has been another challenging but rewarding year, and a big shout out and thank you to the Home and School team for all the events that they have organised and funds they have raised to support our school.

Enjoy the summer and we will see you in 2023.
