Being a Scientist - Room 5 stories
Room 5 tamariki have been scientists and writing stories. Below is a small selection of the creative writing.
Scientists by Luciana
I am a scientist. Why?
Well…I love science and experiments but most of all, asking why. Why? Why! Scientists protect the planet and are looking for other planets that people can live on.
Why? People are not looking after the planet well and it is dying slowly.
Scientists start with a question, then they make an experiment according to the scientific method.

I am a scientist. Why?
I am a scientist who is curious about the world and what could be on each island on earth.
I also wonder about how things work and how weather works too. Weather is pretty cool because of how the cycle goes and how organized it is with the cycle. Weather means storms, wind, rain and … tornadoes! WOW! That is a lot of different weather that could happen on the earth.
Ok, back to work. If you want to be a scientist you need to be curious and resilient and persevere if you make a mistake. Well, that is all I have to tell you, bye.
I am a Scientist by Arno
I am a scientist that studies volcanoes so let me tell you about volcanoes.
They explode because the magma rises up and then the volcano explodes.
Amazing right? Yup!
I am also a geologist.
A geologist is a scientist that studies rocks and crystals.
Fun fact about crystals.
They can be huge like from one side of the house to the other.
That's all from me.
See you next time.

I’m a geologist. Now you may ask “what’s a geologist?” Ok, a geologist is the type of scientist that studies rock. Now some may call us hard headed! HaHa! Rock pun! Anywho, I'm going back to work now. Huh? What’s that? You want to come too? Well ok! Actually hold that thought - I still need my morning coffee. You have no idea how hard we have to work! Did you know that crystals form from volcanoes? How? Through high heat and pressure under the earth's crust. By the way I can give you a list of the weakest to hardest crystals. Here it is: 1.Talc 2.Gypsum 3. Calcite 4.Flourite 5. Apatite 6. Feldspar 7. Quartz 8. Topaz 9. Corundum 10.Diamond.
I love to run experiments and me and my science buddies are really resilient and we are very curious and I mean it! In every experiment we do, there are 6 things that are involved in it 1. Question 2 .Hypothesis 3. Materials 4. Procedure 5. Results 6. Conclusion.

Some out-takes from other Stories
Do you like science? NO? Well, at the end of the story you will like it, and learn a lot, so, let's get started on how to be a scientist. - Toby
Do you know that if you want to be a scientist you have to be really resilient? Here's a joke - what type of dog does a chemist own? A laboratory retriever! Ha Ha Ha - Olympia
A hypothesis is basically guessing what will happen during the experiment. Next the materials. The materials are well you already guessed it. It's what you need for the experiment! The procedure is what steps you will take with the experiment. - Jeremy
I don't mean to be rude but do you mind going away for a bit because I need to concentrate. Do you know how to do an experiment? I will tell you an experiment. Pour red food colouring into vinegar then add baking soda, but before that put it in a cup. - Harper
As a scientist I need to write down the result of every experiment and form my conclusion at the end. A conclusion shows whether my hypothesis is correct or not. - Jamie
