Principal's Message

Kia ora e te whānau

By now you will have read the Board of Trustee's letter introducing our new Principal, Adelle Jensen who will join the school at the start of next year.  I have worked with Adelle on committees and have enjoyed her company at regional hui.  She has the qualities our staff, students and community said were important - this is a great appointment for our kura!  Haere mai Adelle!

It's that time of year where we learn about our team's endeavours for next year.  As such, Tiaoyan, teacher in Room 10, has let us know that she is a lifelong learner, keen to explore the world; we will be farewelling her at the end of this year.  I'm proud of Tiaoyan for making the decision to leave a school like ours to navigate the uncertainties of other shores.  It brings back memories for several of us when we knew the time was right to go on our O.E.

You will read in this issue about the school's kaitiakitanga learning.  Over the course of last term, Linda Palairet - Within School Leader for Empowering Students, supported the school's inquiry learning on how to be a kaitiaki (protector, guardian) of ourselves, our environment and our people.  After listening to the innovative ideas from our students on ways to improve guardianship, I'm grateful for Linda's leadership energy that guided our school to provide opportunities for our students to be curious and creative.  I have also noted how charmingly persuasive our tamariki are!
