What an incredible impact Cyclone Gabrielle has had around the North Island. You will have family and friends that you are concerned about, our thoughts are with everyone who has been impacted by this severe weather event. For once, Wellington seems to have avoided the worst of the damage but I am sure there is still a bit of clean up to do! Thank you for your support yesterday afternoon as we adjusted our usual departure routines to be safe around the fallen street lamp. We were very grateful that the fire service were able to assist with the temporary road detour, and that Wellington Electricity responded so quickly, and just in time for 3pm! Hopefully you received the text messages, or saw the school Facebook page updates. If you didn’t receive the text message- this might be a good time to check we have your correct contact details as we do text important information in urgent situations like yesterday.

Our teachers have their second evening of parent meetings tomorrow afternoon/evening. These meetings are an opportunity for teachers to learn from you about your child - what helps them thrive, what are their goals and your aspirations for their year. You are welcome to bring your child to the meeting with their teacher if you would like. If you have other siblings with you, or if you’d prefer your child does not attend the meeting, there is supervised childcare for CAS students available in the Library- a big thank you to Sonia and the team for running this! A koha of $2 is appreciated to go towards the cost.

School Patrols

I’d like to acknowledge the mahi tahi (teamwork), resilience and pride our school patrollers are showing so far this year. Our school patrollers are trained by our Community Constable, and have clear markers to guide when they can open the signs.

A big thank you to our parent volunteers who supervise, prompt and encourage our patrollers and are out in all weather conditions!

Thank you for modelling great road safety and respect with your children- your messages around waiting patiently, walking quickly, focusing, being polite and appreciative to our volunteers etc are really helpful! A wee reminder on the Road Code - if you're within 20 metres of a pedestrian crossing, footbridge, underpass or traffic signal, you must use it to cross the road. We know that Cashmere Avenue has become a lot busier with the roadworks on Ngaio Gorge. Mornings are especially busy, and there can be longer wait times at the crossing while the patrols follow their training and look for the safe gap in the traffic. Thank you for your patience- I know it does take extra time in our already pressured mornings.
