Bugs, Bugs, Bugs

Admin Cashmere —

The Room 14, Year 1 children, have spent the term being curious learners. The children have delved into some really interesting topics asking some deep and many open ended questions. Our wonder wall is full of their curious questions on many different topics.

Insects, especially bugs, have been a big theme with lots of learning especially around cicadas. Emily said “Did you know cicadas can both fly, but also love to be on the ground? They also shed their skin when they grow and can do this several times!” When the children looked through the magnifying glasses they discovered the wings were transparent. We found out that you could tell the type of cicada by their wings, as they are all sightly different sizes and shapes. We have become good at really looking!!

The Room 14 children have been showing the CAS capabilities of critical thinking and curiosity, and the value of empathy. Any live insects are always returned to nature. Ka pai Room 14!
