Raising Body-Confident Kids in the Digital Age:

An event for parents, teachers and coaches.

Churton Park School is bringing Raising Body Confident Kids in the Digital Age with Emma Wright to our community on Wednesday 25 October. Emma has been featured on The Project and is about to publish a book (through HarperCollins). She holds a Master's Degree, is well researched and has lived experience with disordered eating.

90% of teens report that Body Image is one of their biggest concerns. 73% say it stops them from engaging in physical activity. Schools and parents report that their biggest challenges are kids' mental health and behaviour around devices.

Emma's talk will arm you with practical tools and strategies to help your child build resilience to damaging messages, self-manage screen use and have a healthy relationship with their body.

Beginning School Information Session:

Our next Beginning School Information Session is on Wednesday 25 September at 9am in the staffroom.  This is a useful session if your child has just started Cashmere (and you haven't been to one before), if you have a child who is due to start Cashmere shortly.  If you know of families, who are not at Cashmere but are in zone and looking to send their children here, then please let them know about the session.  Linda Palairet, our New Entrant Coordinator talks about the transition to school and what to expect.  The session is just over an hour long and is followed by a tour of the school from our student councillors.

Mihi Whakatau:

Our Term 4 Mihi Whakatau will take place on Wednesday 1 November at 9am.  This is to welcome new whānau to our Kura.  An invitation will be sent to new families explaining further about a Mihi Whakatau.

Sunhats:

Don’t forget that in Terms 1 and 4 hats MUST BE WORN while your child is outside. Please make sure your child has a named hat in their bag to wear while outside doing PE, and for interval and lunchtime. They must wear their hat even if it’s cloudy. We require the children to wear sun hats that provide protection to the ears and neck as well as the face. Bucket hats, legionnaire or “cricket”-style hats are all suitable. Students without a hat, or an appropriate hat will be asked to remain in designated shade areas during interval and lunch. Hats are available for purchase ($15) from the office but we must have permission from a parent in order to sell a child a hat.

Dental Van:

The Bee Healthy Dental Van will visit later in Term 4.

In-Zone Enrolments 2024 & Student Leavers:

It is that time of year when we start to plan classes for 2024. Having a clear picture of leavers and arrivers helps us to plan class placements and keep classes to an appropriate size.

If you have a child who will be starting Cashmere during 2024 or know of any who will be, can you please fill in our pre-enrolment form on our website as this gives us an indication of our class numbers. Ngā mihi. Web address: www.cashmere-ave.school.nz/starting-school/enrolments

Do you have a child (Year 1 to Year 5) leaving our school at the end of 2023? Please advise the school office so that we can prepare the appropriate transfer information.

CLASS PLACEMENTS 2024

We are preparing class lists for 2024. We have a good understanding of your child’s schooling needs and follow a careful process to ensure that the makeup of classrooms is equitable to all children. We ask that you trust the professional judgement of your child’s teacher and the  team’s careful allocation process. We do not accept placement requests for teachers or friendship groupings. Teachers have a great deal of knowledge on your child’s capability and who they work best with.

However, if there are any exceptional or serious factors that you believe staff may be unaware of then please email our Principal, Adelle Jensen: principal@cashmere-ave.school.nz outlining the factors to be considered. If required, she may call you seeking further information or you may feel it appropriate to make an appointment with Adelle, via the office. Please express your considerations to the Principal by Friday 27 October.

Board Elections:

As we have received more nominations than required there will be an election.  This year we are using an external company CES (Canterbury Education Services Society Ltd) and they will email out information regarding the candidates and voting information in due course.
