House Competition and Student Council
Its been a wonderful start to 2021 for our House Competition.
Athletics Day
The House Competition for 2021 began with three events in Term 1. We started the year off with a fantastic House Athletics Day on the Top Field. The weather was beautifully fine and the rainbow of House colours provided the backdrop for a day of excellence and enjoyment. Records were broken throughout the day and the overall House placings/results were very close. Cooper House won the Athletics Trophy due to superb participation numbers, proving that involvement is the key to House success. House and individual winners were as follows:
Under 14 Boys Will Hull Ngata
Junior Boys Sam Higgins Sheppard
Intermediate Boys Matthew Winter Cooper
Senior Boys Charlie Hazlett Rutherford
Under 14 Girls Leah Pratten Britten
Junior Girls Lilla Faivre Cooper
Intermediate Girls Esther Pratten Britten
Senior Girls Fritha Reynolds Britten
Relay winners – Britten
Overall House rankings for Athletics Day:
1st Cooper
2nd Sheppard
3rd Britten
4th Blake
5th Ngata
6th Rutherford
House Olympics
The sporting theme continued with our second event for the year – the House Olympics. Each team selected four teams of evenly mixed genders and year levels to contest Netball, Basketball, Football and Dodgeball over the course of a week. A great time was had by all involved with another close set of results. The mighty blues of Cooper were again the best House over the course of the week’s events, and pulled out all stops to see off their rivals for a very well-deserved win.
House Olympics Results:
1st Cooper
2nd Sheppard
3rd Britten
4th Ngata
5th Rutherford
6th Blake
Talent Quest & Shave for a Cure:
We ended Term 2 with a Talent Quest in the PAC on a Charity Day supporting the Shave for a Cure campaign led by Year 13 student Campbell Stewart. The Charity Day raised just over $1900 for this worthy cause, with the ‘shavees’ raising many more thousands on their own. The CHS total of just under $13,000 makes us one of the country’s best Shave for a Cure schools.
The seven Talent Quest finalists wowed the audience and amazed our very astute judges (Mrs Tania Austin and Mr Clayton Hiku). Oliver Sutherland of Sheppard House took first place for his superb hip-hop dance routine, hard rock band Burning Monk were second, and the Blackie twins of Cooper took third place with their brilliant ‘duelling drumkits’ performance.
Term 2 has two House events to look forward to – the fast paced, Canta-Math style Quizmere general knowledge event on 20th May (Week 3) as well as the Fashion and Wearable Arts Show on 9th July (Week 10.) The theme for the Fashion and Wearable Arts Show is ‘Under the Sea’ with each House providing an entry based on this concept.
Current House Standings and Points:
1st Cooper 44 points
2nd Sheppard 42 points
3rd Britten 34 points
4th Ngata 20 points
5th Blake 16 points
6th Rutherford 12 points
As always, involvement is the key. Get involved in the House activities … they provide great opportunities to meet new friends, support your House groups and add to the vibrancy and excellence of the school culture.
