Shakespeare Festival
Big Congrats to our students who took part in the Shakespeare Regional Festival. We had four entries which were all student directed. A fifteen minute piece from 'Titus Andronicus', directed by Rowan Matthew. In the five minute category we had a scene from 'Much ado about nothing', directed by Hannah Winchester, 'Julius Caesar', directed by Melissa Sheldon, and another scene from 'Julius Caesar', directed by Inaki Belton, and Max Charteris.
Georgie Cockfield was awarded a best performer award for her portrayal of Julius Caesar.
Rowan Matthew was awarded best student director.
Ben Evans was awarded direct entry to NSSP (National Schools Shakespeare Production), which means that he leapfrogs the Nationals, and goes straight into direct contention to be selected for the Young Shakespeare Company who will travel to London in 2024 to train and perform at the Globe Theatre!
Debating Success
On the weekend of the 25th and 26th of March, Cashmere participated in the Canterbury Schools' Debating Tournament. Our Year 13 team (Ethan Jackson, Rowan Matthew and Ben Ellis) broke into the semi-finals at the top of the table on four wins and the highest overall speaking points.
The semi-final against St Margaret's College was judged by three adjudicators. The moot was: This House, as New Zealand, would pivot away from the Chinese Trade Market. Cashmere won in a unanimous decision. Advancing to the finals, Cashmere faced St Andrew's College debating the moot: This House would ban the use of AI in warfare. As the negating team, Cashmere debated valiantly, but we lost to the affirming team in a split decision. For the second year in a row, Ethan Jackson was selected as a member of the Canterbury Squad. He will travel to Wellington later in the year to represent Canterbury at the national tournament.
Clara Dujakovic
Congratulations to Clara Dujakovic for gaining an internship with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. This is a fantastic achievement, well done Clara!
Year 12 Assembly
At our last Assembly for the Term we celebrated the amazing achievements of our Year 12s. They have had a great Term and made a significant contribution to the positive culture of the school.
Well done to Ruby Geddes for receiving our COVE award!
Relay for Life
Relay for life took place on Saturday in North Canterbury and was a fun but long 12 hours of walking for the students. We also had a number of parents who also stayed to walk laps with their family, support from our gazebo and join in with the events throughout the day.
We were one of four high schools that participated in this community event and other community groups throughout Canterbury. We have raised $5,600 so far which is amazing!
Special mention to Auraeyah Harris, Sydney Horn and Zoe Meeton who walked 80 laps around the track throughout the 12 hours (24km)!
Market Day
It was great to see our students involved in the Year 10 Market Day. This is the practical aspect of our Business Activity unit in the Commerce programme. The Market Day is preceded by 6 weeks of hard work where students have to write a Business Proposal and financial forecasts for their Business before running it in school. After the day, students compare their actual finances with the forecasts and reflect overall on the viability of their business and improvements that could be made.
Rolleston College Sporting Exchange
As I write this korero, a number of our winter sporting teams are at Rolleston College competing against other co-ed schools across the region. This is a great opportunity to have a hit out before the winter season officially begins next Term.
House Talent Quest 2023
Today we held our annual House Talent Quest in our Perfoming Arts Centre. Yet again we were blown away by the depth and breath of talent. Congratulations to Ben Evans (Britten House) who took out 2023 title.
Parent Interviews
We are always looking to improve our processes. This year we trialled a hybrid option with both online and in-person interviews, based on feedback from last year. We have data from our booking system that we will analyse, but we would also love some feedback from our parent/whānau community. Please click on this link if you would like to provide feedback.

Who’s Who at Cashmere High - Kellie Fenemor
Ka tū ahau I runga i te maunga tapu o Te tiriti o te moana

Ki ngā iwi o Aotearoa
He kaiako au ki te kura tuarua o Te iringa o Kahukura
Ko Kellie Fenemor toku ingoa
Kia ora, my name is Kellie Fenemor and I am one of the Deputy Principals here at Cashmere. I'm originally from a small town on the outskirts of Nelson called Tapawera, somewhere you might have driven through on your way to the Abel Tasman. I've worked at Cashmere for around 20 years and have held a number of roles including Head of the Physical Education Faculty.
I currently work alongside Nick Milward and Adrian Riepen with the Year 10 cohort and support the Technology and Languages faculties. I've immensely enjoyed being involved in the property work over the last few years where I feel really proud of the way our staff have combined with outside contractors to create fit-for-purpose teaching spaces to support the learning of our students. Cashmere is a great place to be; I feel super fortunate to work at a place where the staff are passionate, committed, and support each other to grow and do the best they can by our students.
Outside of school hours you might see me down at the netball courts where I co-coach the Senior A Netball team. I really enjoy the opportunity this provides me see students grow and mature over time as both players and people. I've also got into social Volleyball over the last few years, playing with a group of staff members at Pioneer over winter and have recently taken up sewing, many of the clothes I wear I've now made myself - just don't look too closely and you won't notice the errors!
