Pou Whirinaki Update

Cashmere High School —

PENZ Pōwhiri

In the first week of the school holidays Te iringa o Kahukura welcomed the PENZ conference to kura. This was a major event as PE teachers from around the motu came together for a few days. Our kapa haka rōpū welcomed all to our kura on the Monday morning.

Japan Visits

During Term 3 our kura was luckly enough to have 2 kura from Japan come and visit. They were welcomed by our senior whānau class and our junior kapa haka group. During their visit to our kura our Year 11 Te Reo Māori class taught them some traditional Māori kemu as well as some sentence structures.

Chile Visit

Our ākonga also welcomed our Chile visitors to our kura with a mihi whakatau. During their visit to Te iringa o Kahukura our Year 13 Tikanga class taught them some traditional Māori kemu as well as some sentence structures.

Whare Rebuild

Late in Term 3 the Whare has started to get its renovations. So, this means our classes have been moved for the remainder of the year. Our Te Reo classes will now be in Whare Kotahitanga (K6) and Whare Wawata (W5).

Pō Whakangahau

We had our first annual Pō Whakangahau evening. This was a replacement of the Term 3 Whānau hui which had been a staple for many years. The idea behind having a Pō Whakangahau was to bring our community together and a chance for our surrounding kura to show off their school kapa haka rōpū. This was such a great night and was a big success. We are hoping that this becomes a regular addition to the yearly calendar.

Tūhono

Once again our kapa haka rōpū stood and performed at Tūhono once again. This year was different as we had only our senior stand on stage this year. As our junior group will be standing later in the year in Term 4. It was another great performance from our rōpū as they continue to grow year after year.
