NCEA Examinations
Our senior students (Year 11-13) will now be in the full swing of their NCEA Examinations. We wish them all the very best and we hope they are able to achieve the results they are capable of achieving.
Numeracy and Literacy Common Assessment
Last we held our Year 10 Literacy and Numeracy Commons Assessments. I would like to thank our staff involved in the preparation and facilitation of these assessments. Due to the importance of these assessments, we have spent a significant amount of time and resourcing to ensure our students have the very best scaffolding to achieve their personal best. Unfortunately, we did experience some technical issues due to NZQAs inability to handle the volume of students logging onto the system. We have written to NZQA and ask for assurances that they reflect on these issues and ensure that the platform from which these assessment tasks are offered is capable of dealing with the volume of students in any given time period of the week.
NCEA Information Evening
Thank you to everyone who was able to come along to last night's NCEA information evening. If you were unable to attend HERE is a link to the presentation.
Year 9 Assembly
On Wednesday we held our Year 9 Principal’s Assembly. This year group have made a fantastic start to their time at Cashmere and this was demonstrated by the number of students who received awards at the assembly. I know Mrs Stewart is delighted with their progress and she will continue to expect this high standard as they move into Year 10. Special congratulations to Anna Wright who received our COVE Award. Anna has exemplified our school values throughout the year and achieved excellent success across a range of areas.
Art Folio Night
Last week we held our annual Art folio evening to showcase the brilliant work of our arts students. These folios are the culmination of their years work and will be sent to NZQA to be marked. Once again our students have produced outstanding work for which they should feel very proud.

Who’s Who at Cashmere High School - Chris Trewern
Kia ora Koutou, I’m Chris and I have been here at Cashmere High School since the start of Term 3. I am originally from Dunedin and studied at the University of Otago. I have been teaching since 1995. During that time I have been lucky to have taught in various places including New Zealand, The United Kingdom, Colombia, Turkey and more recently in Brunei Darrussalam where we were for the last eight years before returning to New Zealand.
My wife Kerry is also a teacher and we have two children, Izzy and Thomas. Outside of school I love Science, sport, the outdoors, and reading. We are very lucky here in New Zealand as it is such a beautiful country, which is something we talk about often in our family. Please do not take this for granted and get outside and do some stuff.
I have been so impressed by Cashmere since arriving. There is so much opportunity for students both in and out of the classroom. Again, do not take this for granted, please get involved. As mentioned I love Science. I also enjoy working with people. The students here are great and I consider myself lucky to work with a great staff. In particular I consider myself very fortunate to be the Head of the Science Faculty, which has a great team who are passionate about what they do.
To finish I try and live by the following:
He aroha whakatō, He aroha ka puta mai
If kindness is sown, then kindness you shall receive.
