International Students
We welcomed 5 new international students (Vanessa (11), Shawn (9), Michael (9), Arya (9) and Adesh (9) to Cashmere this year. These students attended orientation and are now settling into classes.
We have 16 returning students who chose to stay in Christchurch over the summer holidays so they could continue with their studies in New Zealand.
Our international students are from Japan (4), China (14), Hong Kong (1), Korea (1), and Thailand (1).
Students Story
Our first days at Cashmere…
Shang and I started studying at Cashmere this week, we are both in year 9 and have come from local primary schools which are a lot smaller than this school. Cashmere is so big that it has taken us all week to learn where our classes are. The first day we were very excited but also very nervous because we were worried about our English, we haven’t made many friends yet, but I am sure we will once our English improves. I am living with my mother, and I ride a bike to school. Shang is living with a host family near to school, so he just walks to school. We love Cashmere High School, one day our English will be so good that we will be able to write this story without any help.
“Bing” the bell rings, it’s time for Shang and I to go to class.

Host Families
A huge thank you to our homestay families, designated caregivers and parents who cared for and supported our students over the summer break. Pre-Covid many of our parents would have returned home with their children to catch up with their family and our host families would have managed some timeout while their students returned home to see their families. We really appreciate all the effort, care and support you are giving to our students during this pandemic.
We are always looking for new host families so if you are interested in hosting, please call our international office on 03 3374725 or send an email to our Homestay Coordinator, Sylvia Seelen: homestay@cashmere.school.nz
