Cashmere High School —

Welcome to Term 2 - we have a busy and exciting term ahead.

Music

We were very fortunate to have the New Zealand Youth Choir take time out of their tour to visit and work with our vocal students.  Students in Choir, Chamber Choir, Girls Chorus and Male Voices benefited from the experience and afterwards we were treated to a wonderful performance.  They are an amazing choir and everyone able to attend enjoyed their performance.

Choral Concert

The Music Department are working hard to provide a packed calendar of events for the coming year so watch their Facebook page / the school website and notices for details.  The first of these events is the Choral Concert, later this monty on 27th May.  Come along and hear the talented CHS Choral groups perform along with some special guests yet to be announced.

Visual Arts

Cashmere High School students continue to achieve many accolades both within their curriculum projects and co-curricular.  Emily Blennerhassett achieved excellence with her folio, pictured here at The NZQA Top Art Exhibition, a coveted achievement in the visual arts.  Well done Emily!

Earth Day Exhibition

Students were invited to participate in an international youth art exhibition, to commemorate the 51st Anniversary of Earth Day. 'Value every drop of water' was the theme for this year's exhibition, which was held at the Pūmanawa community exhibition space in the Arts Centre at the end of April. Some CHS students took up the challenge, congratulations to Archie de Clifford, Year 9, who had his work chosen for the exhibition and was invited along to the opening.

The Creators Room

Once again CHS is well represented for this years up coming exhibition. Works are selected from secondary schools across the whole of Canterbury. From the large number of submissions this year, five works by our students made the top fifteen! Congratulations to Hannah Anderson, Evelyn Fink and Ella Ward for this fantastic achievement.

The Creators Room provides a platform for senior Visual Art students (Years 11-13) to sell their work and be recognised for their talents. We will let you know when the exhibition dates for this year are announced so you can see these wonderful artworks for yourself. Prints of the artworks exhibited in The Creators’ Room can be purchased, with proceeds going to the artists. For more information, visit The Creators’ Room (www.thecreatorsroom.co.nz).

Art Library

Once again CHS Art Library has benefited from a generous donation.  Paula and Graham Bennett have donated the book that accompanied Grahams' recent exhibition 'Seeking a Balance'.  This is a major publication and with the increasing cost of materials for the Department would have been out of reach for our students without this amazing donation, thank you!

Creative Opportunities

Murals

You will have noticed all the building work happening around the school and as part of the on-going plan to improve the school environment we are in early planning stages to embark on some new mural art works.  One of the proposals is to visually represent the school COVE values.   We will be inviting your ideas and contributions soon in some brain storming sessions, so put your thinking caps on ... and watch for more information on how you can get involved.  If your ideas can't wait or you just want to register your interest please email red@cashmere.school.nz
