A big congratulations to our Year 9 COVE Award recipient, Millie Junge. Millie received this award on Wednesday in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the school community. Takapuna Grammar - Cashmere Rowing Exchange

Last week a number of our rowers attended the Takapuna Grammar exchange. This was a wonderful experience for our crew members and it was fantastic to make new friends within the sport of Rowing. A highlight was the crew winning the Girls U16 Quad.

Thank you to Takapuna Grammar School Rowing Club and the individual families who hosted crew members. This was such a positive experience for our students.

Volleyball Canterbury Champions

Last weekend our Year 9 and Year 10 volleyball teams competed in the Canterbury Junior Championships. Both our Boys and Girls Junior A teams made the final of Division One. Our Year 10 Girls team won Division One with a 2-1 victory over Christchurch Girls High in the final. Our Year 10 Boys team finished a very gallant 2nd place, going down to a tough Riccarton team in the final 2-1. Thanks to all of the coaches, managers and supporters who made it all happen.

Head Students

I am delighted to be able to introduce our Head Students for 2023. I am always amazed by the calibre of the students who apply for this role. There is a tough process for students to go through in order to be selected. First they must apply and then be shortlisted. The shortlisted candidates then speak to the staff followed by a speech to the Year 12s, and conclude with an interview. I want to congratulate all the students who put their name forward for these positions. It is great to see students putting up their hands to serve our school and our wider community.

Who’s Who at Cashmere - Nick Moyle

Mr Nick Moyle — Image by: Cashmere High School

Kia Ora. My name is Nick Moyle and I have been teaching at Cashmere High School since 2015. I have also taught at Rangiora High School and Netherhall School, England. I am married to my wife Rachel, and we have two sons – Oliver and Toby.

My current role is HoF Social Sciences and HoD Geography/Tourism. I teach Geography, Social Studies, Tourism and Agricultural Science. I also am in charge of running the Duke of Edinburgh Award at Cashmere High School.

I really enjoy working at Cashmere High School for the diversity of students that are here and the amazingly supportive culture of its staff. A part of my job I particularly enjoy is seeing the progression of beginning teachers. It is really special to see teachers new to the profession increase their confidence as their first teaching year progresses and how they bring different ideas and energy into a school.

In my spare time I like to get into the mountains to go tramping and mountaineering and also into the sea to go spear fishing. At present I am trying to learn to single water ski, but I’ve only succeeded in doing faceplants that would be graded 10/10 for execution!
