Year 9
Kia Ora Koutou and Mānawatia a Matariki!
I hope that you have re-charged over the winter break and are ready to embrace learning and extracurricular opportunities with ‘Vibrancy’, our theme for Term Three. The start of a new term is a great time to reflect on all the things you are doing well and set some goals to move forward.
The focus for term two was Citizenship and the wero of displaying this value was taken up enthusiastically by the cohort. During Week Four, we celebrated Kindness week. The week culminated in Pink Shirt Day during which students showed their support for inclusivity by wearing pink. Students across the year group have also shown citizenship by participating in Shave for a Cure, the 40 Hour Challenge, volunteering for open night, as well as their positive contributions within sports teams, musical groups and clubs. Service hours can be logged for house points and towards a Student Volunteer Army service award. There is further information on our Year 9 Google Classroom regarding how to do this.
During Term Two, the Police visited to speak to our students about keeping themselves safe and being good citizens online. Key messages included being friends only with people you know in real life and never sharing harmful messages or sensitive images. If you have any concerns regarding something you have seen online, please talk to a trusted adult. You can also contact NETSAFE or the Police on 105.
