Although there was a slight postponement of the October Music finals into November, this compilation of images shows just some of the wonderful performances and awards from that event to get you excited about the upcoming events for 2022…

You will notice some TBC dates on the Music Events calendar at the moment, this will be updated as soon as things are confirmed.

Music activities sign up started in Week one with auditions Week 2 & activities beginning in Week 3.

2022 is a major Production year, the performances will happen the last week of Term 2 and so much goes into putting on a production of this scale, that auditions for it will begin in Week 4 Term 1.

It was unfortunate that the spectacular Dance showcase at the end of last year was not able to have a large public audience due to Covid restrictions, so I hope this image compilation goes some way to show just how incredible our dancers are, the skill and variety of their performances were of such an incredibly high standard.

So we look forward to all the performances 2022 will bring…

Entries for the Creators Room 2022 closed at the end of November and once again CHS is represented well by the following students;

Jessica Cournane, Joseph Davidson-Labout, Ashley Flanagan, Jack Gormley, Tilly Harris, Alexa Kearns, Phoebe Laird, Maria Laurie & Breana Vosper.

Congratulations to all these students who have had their work selected, a wonderful boost to their ongoing Artistic endeavours. If you are not aware of the Creators Room support of young artists, please visit https://www.thecreatorsroom.co.nz where you can also purchase limited edition prints.

There are a number of external opportunities that come up throughout the year which will be advertised on the school website and in the notices. Some of these are annual events such as the National Youth Art Award. This is a prestigious exhibition and I’m thrilled that CHS student Liv Wilson took the opportunity and has had her work selected, well done!

This Art Design folio by Timothy Thomas has been selected, it is about The Otautahi Outlaws, a hypothetical Ice Hockey team based right here in Otautahi/Christchurch.

Painting folio by Breana Vosper has also been selected (pictured earlier). This is now the second year in a row that Cashmere High School Students have had the honour of being selected for this exhibition, Amazing… Well done Timothy & Breana!

Later in Term One we will announce details of Art club & Knitting club so watch the school notices and website for more information.

So I think you’ll agree 2021 was quite a year… and full of massive achievements for our arts faculty students across all areas of the school. Music students Reuben Clarkson received the Cartwright Prize: Academic Excellence in Year 13 - The Dux, Will Hanlon - The Foundation Pupils' All Round Excellence Prize and Proxime Accessit (runner up to Dux), Jules Hlavac - Gary Thin Cup for Academic Music, Yuyu Saito - Thomas Fastier Memorial Award to Outstanding all Round Performance in Music, Lucy Watt - Chapman Cup - Academic Excellence in Year 12 (Dux of Year 12) and Clara Dujakovic - Murdoch Cup - Academic Excellence in Year 11.

Eight of the Students shortlisted for Head Student, all were from the Arts - Incredible - Well done!
