Careers Team Update

Cashmere High School —

It has been a busy term in the Careers Centre. During Term 2 we had a number of great opportunities for students to explore their future pathways. From UNIVERSITY TALKS, EXPOS, OPEN DAYS, INFORMATION DAYS AND MORE….

Presentations from the universities provided students with plenty of information about what each had to offer. These sessions help get students thinking about life after high school.

Otago University/Polytechnic Open Day Trip

A group of students keen on attending Otago University in 2022 had the opportunity to take a trip down south to see for themselves what the university campus had to offer. This year the trip also included a tour of two Residential Colleges, Caroline Freeman and Studholme where we were hosted by ex-students. The students also got to sample the meals on offer, which seemed to hit the spot!

Experience Waikato University - students considering university up north, headed to Waikato to see first hand what the university campus was like. When considering a move away from Christchurch this is a fantastic opportunity to get a feel for what it has to offer.

The Christchurch Careers Expo saw 400 year 12 students attend this event designed to connect tomorrow’s workforce with the best training providers and careers resources.

UC Law and Criminal Justice Days - half-day sessions for Year 11, 12 & 13 students providing a positive on-campus experience, exploring the nature of criminal justice both as a subject for study and as a career, or the specific areas of legal studies.

“PASSIONS, PURPOSE & PATHWAYS” Careers evening. The Careers Team hosted their inaugural careers evening in the Performing Arts Centre on Thursday 17th June. This was an absolutely amazing event with a great turnout – over 500 students/whanau in attendance! It was a great chance to have face to face conversations with over 25 tertiary providers and industry networks. The Inzone interactive careers coach and our guest speaker, Gary Endacott provided additional inspiration.

WORKPLACE EXPERIENCE

During the Term we have been able to connect students with business to gain hands on experience which is such a valuable opportunity. We have placed a number of students interested in Early Childhood Education at local schools in our community - Te Kura o Huriawa Thorrington, Cashmere Primary Te Pae Kererū and Cashmere Kidsfirst Kindergarten.

The Careers Team are always looking for new opportunities to provide students with workplace experiences. If you can help in any way please let us know. Email: fln@cashmere.school.nz
