Principal's Fortnightly Kōrero
End of Term
As we conclude this Term, I would like to thank everyone in our community for all your support. Again, this Term has been very disruptive, not only because of the COVID Pandemic, but also because of general illness. However, despite all of this, the majority of our students have continued to immerse themselves in the life of the school and they have continued to demonstrate outstanding achievement through our academic, sporting and arts programmes. A big thanks to our amazing staff who have continued to do everything possible to support our students.
I expect that we will continue to face disruption, due to illnesses, in Term 3. The challenge for us is not knowing when it will occur and the extent to which it will impact our programmes. However, we will do our best to ensure that our students have an engaging and purposeful Term.
Masks in Term 3
We have decided to continue to wear face masks until further notice. As already mentioned the absences we continue to experience, for both staff and students are very high. We feel we need to do everything we can to mitigate this impact.
Enrolments 2023
Please be aware that, due to high in zone demand, we will not be accepting out of zone students for 2023. Please also note the dates for enrolment. Any late enrolments may have limitations to their subject selection.
Year 9 - 29th July
Year 10 - Year 13 - 26th August
Thank you to all the whanau who attended our three information evenings. While we were disappointed not to be able to host our Open Day, it was wonderful to have you attend these sessions and we hope they gave you an insight into who we are as school and why we do what we do.
Ngā Waiata Mō Tīmatanga Hōu - Songs for New Beginnings
Thank you to all the staff and students who made last night's Choral Concert such a wonderful success!! Big thanks to all the prefects, tech students and those behind the scenes who made the night run so smoothly. Ngā mihi to our Kapa haka for setting the evening off with such a strong start. Thank you to all of our guest choirs from St. Bede's College, Villa Maria College and St. Andrew's College for joining us and celebrating the joy of coming together to sing.
Year 12 Emerging Leaders Day
On the 5th July a number of our Year 12 students attended the Emerging Leaders Conference. This was an excellent opportunity for our students to think about what leadership means to them. There were some great presentations and workshops throughout the day. I spoke to a number of students afterwards and they definitely felt inspired by the conference.

COVE Award Recipients
A big congratulation to COVE award recipients, Silas Jones (Year 9) and Cara Reid (Year 12). Both of these students are deserving of our COVE award for their outstanding contributions to our school community. Both Silas and Cara are fantastic role models for all our students.
Who’s Who at Cashmere High School - Matt Benassi

I was born and raised in Hamilton, Canada, and worked as an outdoor educator and photographer before moving to New Zealand in 2006. During my time here, I has worked as the Head of Social Sciences and Commerce at various schools in the South Island. I have been working as a commerce teacher at Cashmere High School for the past five years and run the Young Enterprise Program. During my time with the program over 70 student businesses have had the opportunity to 'start-up', with businesses having connections with every faculty at Cashmere High School. Some examples include, a virtual reality Antarctica education program, nutritional and safe situation card games, and the world first ice cold activated sports strapping tape.
Outside of school I love outdoor activities such as snowboarding and tramping, as well as seeing live comedy and music. I am an avid basketball fan of the Toronto Raptors and a lifelong fan of the ice hockey team, the Toronto Maple Leafs, I continue to support them with eternal optimism (they haven't won since 1967). One way I uphold a bit of my Italian ancestry is by playing table football (foosball), I still haven't found someone that can beat me!
