Cashmere High School —

COVID

The impact of COVID took on a sharper sense of reality for me last week as my family and I tested positive for COVID-19. It also reinforced to me how COVID can affect people differently, with each of us displaying different symptoms for varying lengths of time.

Next week will be our last week of the Term and again, we will not be rostering any year groups home. I am extremely grateful to our staff who have volunteered to cover classes as well as our relief teachers who have helped ensure that we remain fully functional as a school.

Currently our numbers - 164 students/staff self-isolating including 92 current positive COVID cases.

Maadi Success!

One of my big disappointments of contracting COVID was missing the opportunity to watch our rowers compete at the Maadi Cup in Twizel. The 75th Maadi Cup will go down in history for Cashmere High School as one that holds many highlights and first time achievements. One of which was our first ever girl's medal & the boys performing so well in the U18 Eight!

Head of Faculty presentations to the Board

On Monday 28th March and Monday 4th April our Heads of Faculties presented their annual academic reports to the Board of Trustees. These reports cover NCEA achievement and reflections, future strategies and other faculty matters. This process is a very important part of our faculties reflecting on their learning areas and looking at ways in which to improve, how and what we teach at Cashmere High School.

Service/Citizenship at CHS

One of core values at Cashmere is Citizenship. It is core because the desire and disposition to serve others is a critical part of enabling our vision - together, empowering our communities. I am delighted to see some of our various Service Councils out and about giving back to the communities we are part of. My thanks to the students most recently involved in supporting some of our most disadvantaged through ‘‘kai for the community’ and for the students involved in supporting Landsdowne Tce Playcentre.

Congratulations to Silas Jones 9AUJ who is the NZ Schools U14 triathlon Champion! Silas has overcome a few recent setbacks to achieve this outstanding result. Whos Who at Cashmere High School - Nic Falloon

Mrs Nic Falloon — Image by: Cashmere High School

Kia ora. Ko Nic Falloon toku ingoa.

I joined Cashmere High School as the Careers Administrator in 2021 after being a full-time mum. I have a young daughter at Cashmere Primary Te Pae Kereru and my husband is the Chief Executive of Sport Canterbury.

This year I have also taken on the role of CHS Netball Coordinator. I love being active and I am an avid netballer; a player, coach and manager.

I have lived in Cashmere for the past 15 years and enjoy having the Port Hills on my doorstep. Our community is important to me and I am incredibly proud of the role our school plays within it. I enjoy working and volunteering to make it a great place for our tamariki and rangatahi to thrive. Having spent time on the Cashmere Primary PTA, to coaching sport and supporting and organising events, I love being involved.

When I’m not being a sideline supporter of cricket, touch and netball, I’m planning outings with my family and friends or I’m busy baking.
