Cashmere High School —

COVID

Currently we have not had a confirmed COVID case. However, I am conscious of the concerns that will be held by many in our community, particularly those who may have underlying health conditions.

Today we have moved into Phase 3. This will mean significant changes regarding self-isolation. Now only household contacts will self isolate for a period of 10 days. This means you will only be required to self-isolate if you test positive for COVID or if a member of your household tests positive for COVID.

Please ensure that you still inform the school if your child tests positive for COVID or if they are required to self-isolate due to being a household contact.

We appreciate your support, the good spirit of the students and the resilience and positive outlook of our staff.

Academic Excellence Prizegiving

On Wednesday we were able to celebrate the wonderful academic achievements of our Year 12 students. While we had to restrict attendance to only the prize winners it was great to be able to acknowledge our students’ NCEA successes.

Ko Ken Thomson tōku ingoa

My name is Ken Thomson and I am currently the Gateway Programme Coordinator and also part of the Social Science Faculty where I teach both Social Studies and History. I have been at Cashmere High School since 1998 so have seen many changes over the ensuing years. During my time at Cashmere I have been privileged to hold a number of positions including Sports Director and Head of School for both the Class of 2013 and for their last two years the Class of 2017. I love the vibrancy of Cashmere and no two days in the classroom are ever the same. I have a passion to see our ākonga develop into well rounded individuals who can go from here and be confident of success in anything they choose to do.

Outside of school I’m a keen gardener, particularly growing vegetables in both summer and winter, sometimes with mixed success. Other interests are thoroughbred breeding, and aviation. Yes, I’m a planespotter!
