International Student Department

Welcome to 2021 for returning and new international students.

This term we have started the year off with four new Year 9 students who had been studying at primary or intermediate schools in Christchurch. We welcomed these students to Cashmere with an orientation and Powhiri.

We have 31 returning students who, during these exceptional times, made the choice to stay in Christchurch over the summer holidays because of not being able to return due to our borders being closed to non-residents.

Our international students are from Japan, China, Taiwan, Korea, and Thailand.

ChristchurchNZ along with local tour providers put together a “summer of fun” programme which included English, activities, and short tours. Our students who joined the tours had a fantastic time while getting the opportunity to have a look around our beautiful country. Those who joined in with the activities appreciated the opportunity to meet students in a similar situation from other schools.

Host Families
A huge thank you to our homestay families who hosted and included our students in their family activities and trips over the summer break. We really appreciate all the effort, care and support you give to our international students especially during these exceptional circumstances.

We are always looking for new host families so if you are interested in hosting please call our International Office on 03 3374725 or send an email to our Homestay Coordinator, Sylvia Seelen: homestay@cashmere.school.nz
