Year 9 Science visit the Antarctic Centre

What a wonderful way to finish off 2020....

As a way to finish off the year in Science, all Year 9 students went to the Antarctic Centre on November 25-27. I, personally, was genuinely scared by what we learnt about Antarctica’s role in climate change. But the existential dread I felt was mostly washed away by going into the snow room - a space designed to simulate the feeling of wind chill in Antarctica. The temperature dropped to -18 degrees Celsius, and snow got stuck in everyone’s hair (apparently mine was especially bad).

There were many more highlights of our trip, including meeting two husky puppies named Vinnie and Siku, watching a 4D movie of a journey to and from Antarctica, and watching little blue penguins waiting for their food. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learnt a lot.
