Did you follow the Penguin trail across the city? Did you find the Cashmere High School Penguin?

If you weren’t able to see the Penguins in the city you have another opportunity at the Farewell Event. This will see all 120 penguins from the trail displayed together at the Air Force Museum, 45 Harvard Avenue, Wigram.

NEWS AND EVENTS AROUND THE CITY

You may have seen the sad news in the press that
Bill Hammond passed away. One of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most renowned contemporary artists, Bill leaves behind an amazing body of work, a legacy that
will be enjoyed for generations to come. If you don’t already know his work, ‘The Fall of Icarus (after Bruegel) 1995’ (Pictured with kind permission, Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū.), features in the current exhibition Te Wheke.

ALUMNI NEWS

In 2020 Madeleine Ashcroft graduated from UC in Fine Art Painting, along with her twin sister Grace. (From Year 9 both girls were noticed to be outstanding visual arts students). Madeleine had work chosen for Select 2020 (top works produced by that year’s students). She won the Satwell-Turner Prize in Painting and her work has been purchased by UC for their permanent collection.

The work (pictured above) shows how Madeleine un-wove canvases she had painted, only to reweave and reconstruct the work into something completely new.

Cashmere High School student Nicolae Didenco was selected to attend the Orchestral Summer School at Diocesan School, and perform Percussion in the Auckland Town Hall in January, Congratulations on this great achievement.

The music department are in full swing planning events for the coming year and Music Activities sign up has begun, so if you haven’t already registered your interest head along to the Music department for more details.

Last year one of our talented Design students had the opportunity to produce a poster for a local amateur drama group with a long history, the Princess Margaret Hospital Players (above). So you may see Inigo’s work popping up around the community advertising their forthcoming show.

We look forward to welcoming back CHS Art Club and Knitting club details to follow soon.

There are a number of exciting creative opportunities and events throughout the term and the year, information will be advertised as it becomes available so keep an eye on the notices and school website for more details.
