2016 - A year of final experiences and a year of firsts

Cara Cumberpatch —

Wow! Another year has flown by at Cashmere Primary School. It really has been a busy, fun, and exciting time for us all.

As December arrived we packed up Learning Space 4 and we all began wrapping up our school year. Time and again our team of learners have shown their ROCKS and continued energy and enthusiasm as they navigate their final days as primary school students, or prepare to become our Year 8’s for 2017.

In looking forward to what 2017 holds for the Kātua Team in our new Mānuka and Kānuka spaces. We farewell our 2016 Year 8’s. Thank you to all of our Year 8’s for your contribution to our school community and the Tōtara Team. We have enjoyed all the fun and adventure (jet boating and the rest) that you have provided. You are always welcome here for an explore of new spaces or a natter about what Year 9 and beyond has shown you.

Big mihi to our Student Executive for your stellar efforts. To our Head Girl, Taryn Smith, and Head Boy, Henry Allott, your ability to fulfill your responsibilities alongside a busy curriculum has been massively appreciated, we thank you!! To our deputies/ sustainability leaders, Jack Calder and Poppy Blake-Manson, thank you for continuing your responsibilities and initiatives amongst a rebuild and the changes to edible gardens and worm farms. To our House Leaders, Fergus O'Neill, Murren Halcrow, Caleb Manson, and Pixie Cockerill - thank you for revving up our sport and school events and your ongoing enthusiasm for extra curricular activities. Thank you to Sophie Chapman and the Inclusive group - thank you for your efforts to design and create the friendship chairs and various other initiatives. Thank you Charlotte Gilray, as communications leader - we look forward to your Year 8 Yearbook. Thank you Molly Corlet - our first Transition Buddy Leader, your patience, effort and positivity has been amazing. Tēnā rawa atu koe Luke Jones for your superb efforts over the past two years as Kapahaka leader and as our 2016 Cultural Leader.  Tēnā rawa atu koe Chloe Donaldson for your energy and fantastic efforts over the past year as our 2016 Cultural Leader.

This is demonstrated by our Success and Distinction Badges.

To all of our parent/whanau/caregivers who supported us in our many extra curricular activities/learning or competitions throughout the 2016 school year (without you we cannot embrace all of these opportunities for our students). We truly do appreciate the time taken to drive, coach, prepare, fundraise for us at:

Year 8 Trip

A great success, many firsts (a Methven adventure), and many lasting final memories of their peer group. A massive thank you to my partner in crime - Angie Rayner - for jumping on board to organise an adventure away for our group. A further thank you to our parents who fundraised each and every week this year (from bacon, fashion nights, pinecones, sausage sizzles, to quiz nights, wine sales and all the rest) it was impressive! Thank you very much to Jono Keast and John Crozier who joined us for the whole week. Alongside Damienne Donaldson and Wendy McLarin who escaped with us on our Mid Canterbury retreat. Phew! It really was an amazing getaway and our learners relished in every activity.

Have a safe Christmas and summer break!
