Year 7-8 Hockey

On Tuesday the eighth of August Cashmere Primary School headed down to Hagely Park for the school competitive winter zones competition. Out of the teams selected, the senior hockey team, made of year sevens and eights, did very well in the competition, winning all their games and obtaining the position of first. They will be heading to centrals in late August to compete against the other teams who got first in their zones competitions. A big thank you to Mrs Porter for coaching and leading the team and also to the parents for showing their support and for helping manage the games.

They played four seven aside games and came out on top in everyone without conceding a single goal. Soon they will be going to centrals to compete against teams across Canterbury. Thanks to Mr Grenfell for coaching the team.

Year 7-8 Zones netball 2017

We started the day nervous and cold but also excited for the day in front of us. We headed out to the bus at 9:00am and started our journey for South West Zones. Once we got to Hagley Park, it was time to warm up and get ready for our first game of the day.

Fabriana lead the warm up. It only took 10 minutes. When it was time to get on court for our first game, we all thought it's gonna be hard because we were playing Wharenui School, but we smashed them 1-7 to us. We only had like 5 minutes to have a drink and put our other bibs on. We versed Aidanfield school, again smashed them 12 nil.

Then we played Rowley but unfortunately tied 6-6. After that we played Oaklands but lost 8-3 to them. We also played OLA but lost 11-5 to them. After that game we knew we weren't in the semi finals, our coach put the scores in and then we knew we came 3rd. Not so bad after all. We watched the yr 5-6 netball team for a bit and then it was time to return to school.

Thank you to Letitia, Jo and Jac.

Year 5-6 Cashmere Netball

On Tuesday the 8th of August the selected Cashmere Year 5 and 6 netball team bused to Hagley netball courts to compete in the South West Zones Winter Tournament. In the team was Holly Maraki, Amelia O’Connell-Gerard, Belize McQuarrie, Georgia Rayner, Libby Beasley, Mya Bennett, Milla Eathorne-Godfrey, Stasia Tapsell, Lily Brooks and Ava Barker. We played 6 games of 10 minutes each, we won the first 3 and the quarter final but unfortunately lost the final and our last section game so that put us in 2nd place overall. It was an amazing day and we all played our hardest. But we wouldn’t have achieved that brilliant outcome without our fantastic coach Janine Maraki and the assistant coach Paula Eden.

Year 5-6 Hockey winter sports tournament

On Tuesday the 8th of August 2017 our school mixed gender Year 5/6 hockey team went to Hagley Park for the winter sports tournament. It was a six a side game and our team mates were: Jonty, Immy, Noah, Scarlet, Morna, Nina, Libby, Lilly, Samantha, Gabby and Chris. We did really well, we lost one game, drew about two or three games and won around three or four games. Overall we got third out of eight teams.

We would like to thank our amazing coaches, David and Monique, and our great supporters, the parents. Most importantly, we had so much fun and got as muddy as pigs.

Year 5-6 Football Winter Sports Review

On Tuesday 8th August 2017, a number of teams competed in the South-West Winter Tournament to reach Centrals. Our team consisted of 9 members- Sam Aitken, Lucas Evans, Ezra Holmes, Stephen Tonkins, Ben Lee, Ashwin Thomas, Lucas Gould and Miles Clayton- and our coach- Kelly Tonkin.

Unfortunately Mac couldn't make it but with eight players we finished with spectacular results, only one loss and 7 well-earned wins. As a result we tied first against Hoon Hay School. It was a great day out and we all very much enjoyed it.

Special thanks for all our support and to our wonderful coach, Kelly Tonkin, for managing us so well. We hope you will coach us again.

Year 5-6 Rugby

On Tuesday the 8th of August the Year 5 and 6 Cashmere rugby team went to Hagley Park to take part in the south west zones. The kids in the team were: Charlie, Toby, Felix, Tom, Nate, Will, Kaleb, William, Ben H, Jacob and Lucas P.

The game results were … We lost 2, drew 1 and we won the rest. Our team played well considering that it was Will and Tom’s first time playing rugby they were really good. Our aim was to win and go to Centrals but we ended up coming 3rd equal with Hoon Hay School. It was a great new experience for some of us in the team. Most of the team had played rugby before. We all had a lot of fun. We would like to thank Mr Jack for coaching us and the parents who came to support us.
