Christchurch Strictly Jump Jam Competition
Congratulations to the two Year 7 and 8 teams who placed second and third at the Christchurch Strictly Jump Jam Competition.
The Strictly Jump Jam Competition is a competitive inter-school event that provides schools an opportunity to showcase their students in the artistry of Jump Jam. (Aerobics with Dance elements.)
On Friday the 29th of June, Kātua sent two year 7 and 8 teams to the 2018 Christchurch Strictly Jump Jam Competition. These teams had been selected from over 60 students from our school; they had auditioned, trained and had attended daily practices leading up to the competition.
At 8:15pm both teams arrived at Rolleston College, excited and nervous to start the competition.
Half an hour later, the first team (performing Ice Ice Baby) went to the green room to prepare for their performance. They were nervous to be second in the running order, but came onto the stage with an energetic and confident attitude. They kept in-sync and executed the difficult moves of their routine.
Backstage the second team (performing 4 Minutes), were getting ready to do their routine; they were the last team to take the stage. 4 Minutes brought their best performance yet, demonstrating great faces, strong calls/chants and clean movements.
Finally, everyone assembled for the prize giving. Firstly awarded were certificates for presentation (half of the marking criteria). ‘Ice Ice Baby’ was awarded excellence in this category and so also was ‘4 Minutes.’ The other half of the criteria was judged on technical skill; the two teams received merit in this section.
Next, it was time for the much-anticipated first, second and third places. Ice Ice Baby were very excited to receive third place, and in second place came 4 Minutes! First place was awarded to Heaton Intermediate who had performed the routine ‘Shake it Off’.
Both teams had worked extremely hard and were proud of such a great outcome for Cashmere Primary Te Pae Kererū.
