Type to learn

Cathy Andrew —

Learning to type is a skill which is of great value to all children as they progress through life. Research has shown that it takes 15 minutes a day to become a proficient typist.

‘Type to Learn’ is a typing programme which helps support children to become touch typists.

In 2016 we began using a web based version of ‘Type to Learn’ and this option was made available to our Cashmere Primary families with children from year 4-8. Those families who contracted in last year still have 1 term to go, so it will expire at the end of Term 1, 2017.

We would like to make this option available again to parents in 2017 who did not take up the offer in 2016. This can form part of your child’s Home Learning, if you choose to do so, and is fully supported by staff at Cashmere.

We pay an annual fee to the company in order to access the programme and would ask parents to pay $20.00 per child. This allows you to have access to the programme for the rest of the year (4 terms).

If you are interested in using this very worthwhile programme which will give your child the life- long skill of being able to touch-type, all you need to do is click on the link to fill in the google form (https://goo.gl/forms/qA25ECJ2lJOW4YFK2) and pay the money by cash or cheque to the school office. Please note it will take Admin a week to generate the log in etc, which will be emailed to you.

Note: Some selected children already do ‘Type to Learn’ at school and there will be no cost for these families.
