Canterbury Schools Orienteering Festival Results

Orienteering —

On the 15th & 16th September a small group of Cashmere Primary students took part in the Canterbury Orienteering Champs.

Saturday was a shorter (sprint) event at South Brighton Domain & the weather alternated between bright sunshine and thick sea fog. On Sunday the longer event was held at the south end of Burwood plantation in pine forest and sand dunes. Everyone finished with smiles on their faces!

It was a much bigger event this year and there were lots of teams from other schools. In the Standard Grade you are allowed to compete in teams and have a parent shadowing you (so you don’t get lost). In the Championship Grade you must compete on your own. Here are the results:

Saturday (sprint)

Barnaby O’Neill - 5th in Year 6 & under Boys Standard grade

Ned O’Neill - 5th in Year 6 & under Boys Championship grade

Kathleen Ellwood, Mia Spencer-Morgan - 7th in Year 6 & under Girls Standard grade

Lesley Ellwood, Meg Spencer-Morgan - 5th in Year 7/8 Girls Standard grade

Sunday (long)

Barnaby O’Neill - 2nd in Year 6 & under Boys Standard grade

Ned O’Neill - 4th in Year 6 & under Boys Championship

Kathleen Ellwood, Mia Spencer-Morgan, Anya Sandford – 7th in Year 6 & under Girls Standard grade
