Music Success - Strum/Strike/Blow Festival

Kate Divett —

Congratulations to all students who took part in this event on Wednesday 2 August.

The Strum/Strike/Blow Festival is a collaborative musical event combining ukulele, marimba and recorder players from 32 schools across wider Canterbury. Twenty four Year 3-8 CPS students have spent months learning music for this event on their respective instruments.  They  have been working with tutors from the Chch School of Music (Paul Lee ukulele, and Rosamund McDonald, recorder) and Miss Divett (marimba).

On Wednesday, they attended a full-day dress rehearsal at Horncastle Arena, culminating in a vibrant, accomplished performance that evening. The many hundreds of student musicians were joined by a live band, as well as an energetic New Orleans jazz group called "Justice Brass", and a cappella singers "Voices Co" (winners of a recent TV choir competition).

Well done to all those participating students for a fabulous performance!

Many thanks to the parents who helped to support the students on the day during rehearsal, and to the staff and parents who assisted with bringing musical instruments to and from the event. Thank you also for the work and support that goes on behind the scenes when students are learning their music.
