Gumboot Friday - 3rd of November

Office —

Gumboot Friday is an annual event that raises money for free youth counselling. Please wear school uniform, your gumboots and bring a gold donation.

What is Gumboot Friday?

This event also serves as a platform to raise awareness about mental health and provide support to those who may be struggling with their mental well-being. By participating in Gumboot Friday, we aim to reduce the stigma associated with mental health issues and promote open conversations about mental wellbeing.

Why is it called Gumboot Friday you might ask?

The concept behind Gumboot Friday came about when Mike King was funding counselling sessions himself for young people and it grew quickly to the point it was costing him $10,000 a month. Mike and a friend came up with the idea for Gumboot Friday as a representation of living with depression and mental health issues, life gets heavy and it gets hard to walk, like being stuck in the mud, but when you put on gumboots you can walk through the mud a bit easier. Gumboot Friday is one day a year we can all wear our gumboots and show support for those struggling with mental health issues.

We are now providing approximately 3,500 sessions a month which is costing us $500,000! We still get no government funding, so we rely on the amazing people of New Zealand to get behind this cause which is saving lives.

Note: This event will not include the year 6 students who will be participating in cycle safety.
