Transition to School

Kirsty Brownlie —

Thank you to our Year 8 Buddies

Thank you so much to our amazing Year 8 (and some Year 7) buddy mentors who have done an outstanding job of helping our New Entrants settle in to the busy school environment. This year a Year 8 student, Molly Corlet has had the role of organising the buddy mentors as each new student has started school. This has been a massive job for Molly and she has done it very capably and always with a smile. Thank you Molly and to all of the students who have given up their morning tea and lunchtimes to look after our youngest students. You have been a wonderful group of buddies. Thank you also to Cara Cumberpatch who is always in the background supporting Molly and ensuring that buddy booklets are made. Thank you to the Year 8 students who have been kept busy in the ‘crèche’ at Turning 5 seminars this year. You have been awesome!

Thank you to our local Early Learning Centres

We enjoy a close relationship with our local Early Learning Centres and thank them for all the work they do in preparing children for school, writing transition letters, hosting visits from me to get to know our future students and for hosting Cashmere Primary children when we have come to visit as a group. Some ELCs have also come visiting us with groups of children who are about to start school. Thank you for doing this – it really does help to smooth the transition process. Cashmere Kindergarten has hosted several visits from our New Entrants throughout the year and have been very accommodating to us. They have also brought a number of visitors to school. Thank you to Sandra Laffey and the team for helping arrange all of these visits.
