'Feeling Good and Thriving'

Our school’s Wellbeing Framework empowers students, staff, and whānau to develop the tools and strategies to ‘feel good and thrive’. Teams use the different dimensions of our Framework to explicitly teach students strategies to support the development of these tools.

On Tuesday last week we welcomed cyber safety and risk assessment analyst John Parsons back to Cashmere Primary Te Pae Kererū.

John works with education, health and private sectors, providing specialist advice and direction on the safe and ethical use of Digital Communication Technology.

He is a published author of “Keeping Your Children Safe Online” and a social commentator who works throughout New Zealand and Internationally.

John presented workshops to our Year 5-8 students and teachers, helping students understand ways to take ownership of their well-being and to become capable, confident and connected within the “online world”. After school all teaching staff attended a Duty or Care professional development workshop with John.

Thank you to whānau who attended the parent workshop in the evening. John shared incredibly important information about how to keep your children safe online and extend family values into the online spaces children go to.

Help us to help your child stay safe online:

• talk to your child about how to stay safe online

• monitor where and when your child is online

• do not let your child access apps that have an age restriction i.e. Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram etc

• check-in with them regularly about how they are spending their time online and how they are reflecting your family values
