Music Lesson Enrolments 2021
This article contains information and links for enrolment in music lessons, orchestra, and rock band. Please read carefully.
Welcome to Music for 2021!
Quick links are at the bottom of this email. Please read all information before enrolling.
Enrolments are now open for Music Lessons. Music lessons start up again from Week 4 this year. We have a range of opportunities for students in Year 3-8.
Enrolments for music lessons will be available in the school newsletter until Week 3. Lessons begin in Week 4 (week beginning Monday 22 Feb). Once all enrolments are collated, timetables and schedules will be shared with students who are learning those instruments, prior to lessons starting.
Lesson Options
Music lessons are offered in the following instruments, tutored by professional musicians:
Flute (Anna Just), violin (Julie Pettitt), clarinet/saxophone (Josie Stanford), recorder (CSM Tutor), guitar/bass guitar (Ewen Glasgow), drums (Jon Biddington), cello (tutor tbc), ukulele (Paul Lee), voice (Claire Coleman), and digital music - Year 5-8 only (Chris Wethey).
New for this year is the opportunity to learn brass instruments (trumpet/trombone/french horn) with a tutor from the Chch School of Music. We are thrilled to have this connection with CSM, and we are working on some new projects that may begin in Term 2, depending on numbers.
We welcome back Chris Wethey who will again be offering a "Digital Music" lesson option. He is an experienced music producer and songwriter and helps students to write, record, and produce music on digital devices. These lessons are available for students in Year 5-8.
Changes: Please note that there are no keyboard lessons being offered this year.

Instrumental Music Groups
Music groups at CPTPK are an opportunity to enhance musicianship. There are two group opportunities: Orchestra (Year 5-8) and Rock Band (Year 5-8). Groups begin in Week 6.
Orchestra is on Tuesday afternoons, 1:10 - 2:10pm, conducted by Thomas Woodfield. There is no cost to join this group (however there may be costs for off-site performances). Mixed abilities can be accommodated, and students benefit from the opportunity to learn and support each other.
Rock Band is a group lesson offered by Ewen Glasgow, our guitar tutor. Costs are the same as his group lesson costs (see below). Once we have an idea of who is interested, we will look at forming functional bands! Skill level is a consideration, as well as resources available eg rooms, drum kits etc.
Please enrol for groups via the section on our enrolment form: Music Lesson Enrolment Form 2021
Lesson Allocation
Lesson times and tutor availability are a finite resource. While every effort is made to accommodate everyone who wishes to take part, there may be waiting lists in some instruments. Lessons are prioritised according to our school policy, linked here. All students taking lessons onsite at school must be enrolled via our school music lesson procedures.
Once an enrolment has been received via our online enrolment form:
- you will receive an email within 48 hours to confirm the enrolment has been received.
- you will receive a further email towards the end of Week 3 to confirm the timetable for your child's lesson. Waiting lists will be confirmed and communicated at the same time as lesson timetables.
Lesson Costs
There is an extra cost associated with music lessons, which is outlined in this document (click here). All tutors will invoice you directly, as they are private providers. We have a small number of flutes and clarinets available for hire through school.

I look forward to another year of extraordinary music!
