Hanmer Springs Year 6 Camp was by far the best camp I’ve ever participated in!

Mr Richard Larsen —

Have you ever been to a school camp? Well, from Wednesday 17th - Friday 19th February Y6 went on camp! We went to stay in the Hanmer Springs Forest Camp for two nights and three days and participated in mountain biking, rock climbing, mission impossible and orienteering, and of course, we went to the hot pools too!

My favourite activity was definitely mountain biking, the tracks were so beautiful. We rode on Alligator alley, Easy rider and Mountain view. We biked for roughly two and a half hours and biked 10 Kilometers in 27-degree heat. It was really tiring and it drained most of the energy from me, so I was glad when we reached the pump track because you barely need to do any work at all. After we had all had a turn on the pump track we set off on the long journey back to camp.

Later that evening we went to the hot pools. It was so fun. I somehow managed to convince my friend Megan to go on the Conical thrill with me, it was incredible! We went up super high! After Megan had gone on once she wanted to go on again and again. Later I joined a massive game of tag in the lazy river which managed to turn into a gigantic game of tackle! Even some of the parent helpers joined in. It was super fun but afterwards, I was exhausted!

Overall year six camp was amazing and my favourite camp yet. Everything was beautiful and incredible and all the instructors were very kind. So that's my camp story, what's yours?

Pump, pump, pump! My heart was racing and my mind felt dizzy as I looked down. I might fall any second now. As you might be wondering, ‘Where are you Juliet?’, well, I’m about to tell you. It all started on Wednesday 17th February as year 6G and 6B went camping at Hanmer Springs. We did mountain biking, rock climbing, swimming, orienteering and Mission Impossible.

Rock climbing was really hard. We climbed a literal rock. It was, like, 21 meters tall! The rock was very grey, with millions of green spots made of moss. It was so hard to find places to rest and put your feet and hands. Luckily we had belayers, so if we fell, we wouldn’t fall directly to the ground. Rock climbing needs a lot of skill and balance, trust, and friends. I have a bit of a trust problem with some people because they are just unreliable, but I kind of overcame that.

At 4 pm every night, we would get in a car and drive to the beautiful Hanmer Springs pools. The pools were so fun and warm. I loved the waterslides! My favourite one has to be the Conical Thrill! Of course, I liked the Superbowl but Conical Thrill was much more enjoyable. The Conical Thrill was like this steep drop and then an equally steep wall to go up then down. The Superbowl is just this huge bowl in which your floaties spins around until you fall into the hole in the centre and your ride ends. And the Lazy River is a must-do! If you’re tired, it just pulls you gently along as if there was a light breeze that could move your whole body weight! We had a tonne of fun in there. It is definitely a highlight!

Overall, Hanmer Springs’ 2021 Year 6 Camp was by far the best camp I’ve ever participated in. The waterslides were awesome, the rock-climbing was challenging, the mountain biking was relaxing, and the food was spectacular!
